Foshee, Frances (Williams)

Frances “Fannie” Williams:
Was born August of 1872 in Warren County, GA daughter of both Matthew and Rosella Williams.
She was the youngest of all her siblings.
According to the 1900 Census, she had married John Louis “Jack” Wade in 1888.
From this union she had:
-Walter Mathew Wade changed his name to Walter Lee Grover 1888-1933
-Lillie Mae Wade (Welch) (Manders) 1897-1953
-Solomon Louis Wade 1899-1922
-Otis Wade 1903-1946
-Ethel Viola Wade (Hutchinson) 1903-1941
-Mae Belle Wade (Stansell) 1906-1970
-Johnnie W Wade 1907-1980
-Jeremiah “Jerry” Wade 1909-1972
-Elizabeth Wade (Tilton) (Shuman) (Whitener) 1912-2002
In the 1900 Census, we see Frances living in Richmond County, GA with her husband and children. It states she’s been married for 12 years; the number of her living children is 3, with a total of 4 children she has had. She can read, write, etc.
In the 1910 Census, Frances is living in Richmond County, GA on Milledgeville Rd.
In the 1920 Census, Frances is now living in Wrens, Jefferson County, GA.
Sometime between the 1920’s Frances and her husband John divorced.
According to Find A Grave (Memorial ID 83295649, Maintained by Sara Baker Partridge), it states:
“..According to their youngest daughter, Elizabeth, her parents separated and John moved to Aiken County. He may have lived with his son, Walter Matthew Wade (who later changed his name to Walter Lee Grover.) She did not remember when he passed away, but always believed he was buried at Montmorenci Bapt. Church…”
We know from later records Frances remarried James David Foshee of Edgefield, SC. Unsure of their marriage date but we first see them together in the Augusta, Georgia City Directory of 1929. James is a millworker, and they are living on Eve St.
In the 1930 Census, we see her living in Augusta, Ga in the Sibley Mill Settlement Houses with her son in law John Hutchinson, daughter Viola, son Jerry Wade, and her current husband.
On October 4th of 1833, her husband James died and was buried in Westview Cemetery.
We see Frances again in the 1940 Augusta, Georgia City Directory living on Reynolds St., and she is listed as a widow. She moved the same year because in the 1940 Census Record of April 12th, we see her once again in Wrens, Jefferson County, GA living with her daughter and son-in-law.
On November 3, 1945, Frances passed away at the age of 73. Her obituary states that she passed away in the morning at her residence 1119 Fenwick St.
According to the Graveside Project records,
She is buried in Westview Cemetery in the J.C. Hutchinson Section.

Williams, Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin Williams:

Born in 1868 most likely in Warren County, GA to

Matthew Williams & Rosella Nunis Williams.

It is sourced that Benjamin was married 3 times.

Wife 1- Susie Foals 1874-1901* (Married February 20, 1896)

They had 3 children:


Side note: My father claimed his great grandmother was Cherokee Indian. His father Casper W. Williams told him that she had died when he was just a baby (*abt 1901-1902) but that his father Benjamin had traded a horse for her. (Is the maiden name Foals a connection to the trade?)

Side note: Leila is a sister to his second wife Susie.

  • Florence Lilybelle Williams 1912–1996
  • Bennie Mae Ellison 1929-2003

Benjamin’s occupation was a Farmer until his death on March 8, 1929 from a cerebral hemorrhage. He is buried in Westview Cemetery in Augusta, GA.

Williams, Rosella (Nunis)

Rosella Nunis Williams:

She was born March of 1837 in Burke County, GA to Charles Nunis & Hetty Nunis.

She had 5 younger siblings.

In the year of 1852, she gave birth to her first son Samuel Stringer whose father is Robert Stringer. Both lived in the Burke County, GA area at the time. She was about 14 years old.

On May 16, 1958, she had married Matthew Williams in Augusta, Georgia.

Together Matthew and Rosella had 6 children during the Pre-Civil and Post-Civil War Era.

After the war, Rosella and her family moved to Burke County, GA and her occupation at that time was a House Keeper.

After sometime in 1870, Rosella had moved to Warren County, GA with her husband and children. She would stay in the area until about 1897. Her occupation was still a House Keeper.

Indicated from her husband pension records, they moved back to Augusta, GA in 1898.

From the June 1900 Census Record in Augusta, GA, they were married for over 45 years. She had been pregnant 8 times and only 5 of her children were still alive.

She sadly passed away the next month on July 26, 1900 from Angina Pectoris. She was buried the next day in the now abandoned Rollersville Cemetery.
